After much deliberating we decided to leave Oklahoma City today so we could come to Amarillo and zip-line and ride horses tomorrow. (The zip line was not for me, btw). We had an RV park in Amarillo planned, but it wasn’t till tomorrow because we thought we were in Oklahoma City for 2 days. (Good God!! The wind is so crazy I’m having a tough time writing clearly ππππ). Anyway, we found Palo Duro Canyon and Jason couldn’t pass up a zip line! I found a happy little trail ride for the family and our Oasis RV park was too far away. Lucky us! The zip line place has an RV park attached! Reviews were crummy but there were only a few and the complaints were silly. We decided it would be perfect for us. Only 1/2 mike from the horse place and AT the zip line place! The drive in was relatively uneventful. We stopped at Walmart to get a new coffee maker which led to being hungry and deciding to eat at a restaurant near there. We found a Mexican place that looked good and off we went! (In the wrong direction. A few times. Yelp was not cooperating!). Through a miracle – I mean my excellent navigation- we made it! They said it was right next to the giant cowboy. We found him!
Dinner was good and safe for Zach π. Always a big worry at a new place! Then we were off to “the Grand Canyon of Texas!” When we pulled in Jason said something along the lines of “seriously?? This is where we are staying??” I reminded him of all of the reasons we chose this place (HIS ZIP LINE being #1!). And we went to check in. We will get pics tomorrow. Tonight we just wanted to get parked because it was getting dark. The guy told us to pick any spot with a red box, but to make sure we tested water and electric before we set up completely. If they didn’t work we should just move to another space. We had many options since the only other RV here is his! First spot had the fuse sitting on top of the red box so we knew we needed to move on. Once we got into the space me, the kids, and Lucky walked out the path to the edge of the canyon while J checked all of the amenities. Did I mention we had the equivalent of the Gornikees in dog version here? The owner’s beagle was all over us. Zach had to hold it while we parked because it kept running at us!
And when we got to the edge of the canyon that dog ran up the ramp! The kids were terrified she was going to fall off into the canyon. She finally followed us back. RV was set when we got back and there was an amazing lightning show happening over the canyon (on the other side). We brought kids up and watched together out the front window and all was lovely until the wind came our way and started shaking the RV and making crazy noises. We sent kids to play on their screens while I prayed silently then called the owner of the RV park to make sure we shouldn’t move. He said we were ok, but we realized that one of the crazy noises was coming from the big slide so we brought it in. Life is much more peaceful now! I looked at the weather map and Amarillo is red tomorrow. I think we are going to have to leave without the horseback ride ever happening. Whatever. I’m fine with it as long as we aren’t shaking like a leaf in the next storm!
